The Gambian Association in Minnesota was established to help facilitate a sense of community by bringing Gambians together to promote cordial relationships, address issues impacting our community and provide resources for community empowerment. The Association’s history dates back to the late 1900s. Through partnerships in the past, the Association has donated about 35,000 books and a container full of medical equipment to The Gambia in October 2009 and September 2011 respectively.

Despite the challenges brought on by COVID-19, the Association had the unique opportunity to provide resources to our community here in Minnesota and in The Gambia in 2021. This included educational information sharing and provision of basic food items. The Association also secured a $32,000 grant through the Minnesota Council of Foundations for a COVID-19 Outreach Project in 2021.My sincere gratitude and appreciation goes to the entire out-going and previous executive members as well as our partners for their dedication, selflessness and commitment in serving our community.

Let us recognize and take the time to engage and support the new Executive of the Association under the leadership of Dr. Nfamara K. Dampha.
